Amcrest IP2M-841B-V3 cameras on port 53

Post by disastrousrecon »

I have four of these cameras and according to my router log, they are each trying to talk on port 53 every few minutes, hundreds of times per day? Why?
What setting should I check. I have port 53 blocked on my router for now.
Thanks!

Port 53 is used for DNS..., and associated BIND exploits when not properly secured/administered.

Yes exactly, hence my concern. Any thoughts on why the Amcrest cameras are doing this and how I can configure them to stop it?

Just thinking out loud..., I'd double check the DNS server addresses in the camera network configurations for starters. The router's gateway address will usually suffice and it should end there unless trying be clever beyond Google's 8.8.8.8.

May also want to kill Amcrest Cloud service if active. I has been reported (ahem...) to do weird and undesirable things on occasion.

Also kill wi-fi if connecting via ethernet.
