Unwanted access to another customers camera
Unwanted access to another customers camera
I'm experiencing a serious security/privacy issue with the Amcrest cloud as I am somehow, without any action on my part, being pushed access to a camera that belongs to someone else. I've been trying to reach someone in the Amcrest corporate offices for several days but every phone number I try ends up being forwarded to India. The tech support guys in India have told me that it is impossible for me to view another customers camera but it clearly is not. I've repeatedly requested (and been promised) a callback from Houston but there seems to be a breakdown there. I first experienced this issue when I started to get motion alert emails while I was on vacation. When I clicked on the link in the email I was connected to a camera that belongs to another Amcrest customer. I've now received over 65 motion alerts from this other customer's camera and can't stop them. And on top of that, I can't even access my own camera since this other guys camera is somehow linked to my login. I'm frustrated and angry and, more than that, concerned that if someone else's camera access is being pushed to me against my will, who is, without my knowledge or consent, being able to view what my camera is seeing.

Dave, am most curious. Was this major security issue ever resolved ? Saying that this cannot be is clearly nonsense and you are right tom be concerned that if you can see ones else his/her camera, they might be able to see yours.

Alberta, The issue has not been resolved and I still have not received any communication from Amcrest. I'm still getting numerous motion alerts sent to my email every day. The company's privacy policy states that they cannot assure 100% privacy and that customers use the site "at your own risk" ... we'll see about that.

Bump.
I wonder if this was ever resolved?

Hello Calbob,
This issue has been addressed and no one can access the cloud without the correct username and password for the camera.

Re: Unwanted access to another customers camera
I too am getting Amcrest Motion Alerts from someone’s camera and have requested help in stopping them from Amcrest but unfortunately to no avail. I do not have a camera and never have had one so am totally at a loss as to why these alerts suddenly started arriving in my inbox. Apart from being a serious security issue it is also a nuisance in that I am getting at least 30 of these every single day. Any advice on how to get them stopped would be gratefully received.

Security Issue? Please how does this effect you? Someone put in the wrong email address? Do you own the Email server? Only way I could understand how you would be getting some one Alerts is if you own the email services and have a Catch All setup to send you emails that are going to your address that has no real user behind it..
Like I own my 2 domains for email. Both of them have catch alls set up and When I send email to my address that has no real user it will just come to the Main Admin users email.
Block the email sender and no more emails from them..
Send an email to the person sending the email. There is no way that any device today can send an email to you without having the sender. If the sender is your email account then they know your account details change the password..
At least you are not getting my email alerts. I get between 350 and 600 a day.. Sometimes more.
