LOL that isn't a Simple Question. So when it comes to Amcrest or Dahua Cameras and to be honest most other companies there should be something that gives info about DORI for the camera or one just like it if you will. With in the DORI it will provide you with info about how far something can Detect, Observ, Recognize and Id within each distance groups. Now this isn't 100% but is really close in most cases.

So if you were to look into DORI, it might come down to what is PPM or Pixels per Meter. So in General a 8mp camera with 2.8mm lens would have around double the Pixels in distance then a 2mp camera would in theory. Say 43m compared to 86m with 8mp camera.

So then the issue is a camera that has 2.8mm lens would have the ability to see a wider area of view but the camera would require object to get closer into frame before Motion detection might pick it up to know that it really is something to trigger for. With camera of same image sensor but with a better lens of maybe 16mm or better say for someone with a Zoom camera or PTZ with real image zoom that FOV is narrower however the object much farther away can be detected
Be Safe.
