e-mail server name query every 6 seconds
e-mail server name query every 6 seconds
Even if I don't touch the e-mail page on my NV4216-EI it attempts to resolve "mailserver" every 6 seconds. Is there any way to NOT have thousands of queries to my PIHole every day?
Re: e-mail server name query every 6 seconds
Not seeing it in my Pi-Hole can I see a snipit of the logs? I am not saying yours isn't doing that I am just saying I am not seeing it from my 4216-E1 that don't have a mail server setup in the network area of the NVR..

Re: e-mail server name query every 6 seconds
SO I even thought well maybe they had setup on accident an event to try and send email so I setup one for my ai camera with audio enabled seeing it is very windy and get audio alert often I thought maybe that will trigger a lookup or something for email.. That didn't do it either? What Firmware are you running on your NVR? Mine has the last one offered on Amcrest Firmware page?

Re: e-mail server name query every 6 seconds
So I thought I would add another NVR as I don't normally have them setup, Nothing happened like when I added the 4216-EI to the service. However when I rebooted the older model it did fail to setup P2P at the start up and did post to log a few times one right after the other until it moved over to googles secondary DNS server on the NVRs DNS setup. Maybe what you think is Email is infact P2P that is failing to setup because of the way it is running. It don't like my Pi-Hole. So if P2P is the issue and you don't use or want to use P2P then turn it off in the Network TCP/IP area of the NVR. Could Be Called Access Platform or P2P depending on FW version. One turned off it will take 2 hours before the pings stop or I should say could take up to 2 hours..

Sorry just trying to help..
I guess have to ask, Did you buy this NVR new or used? If you bought used have you done a Factory Reset on the NVR. Once you installed the new FW hat is on the NVR now did you do a Facotory Reset? If you bought used even if said to be NOS, and even if it was at the area of being what looks like a new fresh setup. Do a Factory reset, If you have not done a Factory Reset after the Update to the Current FW. do the factory reset. If you want problems after the reset then export and import the data back but the whole reason of doing a factory reset is to see if it cures this issue. I don't have mine setup like that, Mine shows a name not just mailserver and client don't show amcrest-nvr.lan so not sure what all that is. But don't look right. All I know is that I have added a few of my recorders, They don't like the DNS server setup so it chokes. Then it works off the back up DNS that I have setup and there is no more info about the DVR/NVRs that I have setup and have added 22 cameras some with Email access and non of them look like that.. I mean when I do a reboot it will access the info a few times trying to get the info I am guessing.. However after a short time it no longer is doing this..
Can you confirm you have a good connection, Not dropping POE because of distance issues or some other reason.. There should be no reason from what I am seeing on mine for it to keep acessing unless there is an issue and again with all my devices only thing they work off of is P2P on a reboot no mail service if no mail is setup. On the one you see in my snapshot on 236 that does have email service working on it to my network solutions hosted site..

Re: e-mail server name query every 6 seconds
This NV4216 was purchased new, from the Amcrest store on Amazon. I have factory reset it at least once. I can't say if I factory reset after the firmware install.Revo2Maxx wrote: ↑Fri Mar 21, 2025 1:04 pm Sorry just trying to help..

The PiHole shows "amcreset-nvr" because I put that name into the host file on the pihole. ".lan" is the domain that is the default on the pihole (at least with V6).
I can confirm that both my PiHole hosts get the same 6 second traffic. One of the PiHoles is set as primary and the other as secondary DNS host.
Obviously neither PiHole can resolve mailserver. I did configure e-mail at one point, but I didn't like the NVR flooding my domain mail server.
I do not have POE version of the NV4216. My cameras are on a UniFI network, and I don't believe there are any POE issues.
The NVR log is clean -- admin login, time update. Nothing else.
For consistency with your previous post here is the tail of pihole log

Re: e-mail server name query every 6 seconds
Just for grins, I blocked "mailserver" in both PiHoles. That stopped the traffic to the second PiHole and changed the query to primary to every 3 seconds with 0.0.0.0 returned.
Re: e-mail server name query every 6 seconds
Just an update, I did a factory reset on my NV4216-EI. I did nothing but the HTTP setup and I still get requests to PIHole (DNS address provided by DHCP) for the default "Mailserver" every 6 seconds. And my config export/restore failed so I get to do all the setup again manually ...
After enabling HTTPS, the restore seems to have been accepted.

Re: e-mail server name query every 6 seconds
I would make a Ticket with Amcrest support and maybe they will need to make an update that corrects this issue. Because of how it is being detected not sure how they would get the same details unless they are willing to install Pi-Hole.. But maybe just some data from your ticket with what your NVR shows might be enough for the R&D to make an adjustment..
