ATR-22 radio programming help

Post by JimSchuuz »

I purchased a set of ATR-22 radios, and the instructions mention features that are managed through the programming interface from a PC. The problem is that there is no information about what software is needed to manage these radios. I presume that the channels are also able to be changed since there is nothing that tells what the frequency is of each channel.

I have Chirp software already and a programming cable for my Beofeng radios, and I would like to have these all programmed on our own custom frequencies together, but there are no Amcrest radios in the Chirp setup anywhere. There is also no support information about these radios on the Amcrest website either.

Can anyone assist with the programming of these ATR-22 radios?

Just received our radios. Product description mentions '16 Programmable Channels' and 50 CTCSS/105 CDCSS. I'd second the request for detailed programming information, cable, software, etc.

SOLVED? Re: ATR-22 radio programming help

It appears we're able to use same programming cable - and software - as the Baofeng BF-888S. In my research, seems in some places they refer to the Amcrest ATR-22 as the 'upgraded' version of Baofeng BF-888S.
Here's what I purchased... http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HQZE5IA

CONFIRMED: SOLVED! Re: ATR-22 radio programming help

Yes, it seems using the BAOFENG BF-888S settings work just fine to program this radio using CHIRP software. Using a MAC- I was not able to get software to recognize USB port. Using Windows, I was absolutely able to download, program, and upload frequencies!

I did have some trouble at first and it was necessary to load USB drivers using instructions on this page - http://www.buytwowayradios.com/blog/201 ... are_1.aspx

Again, just follow directions, make selections in software, for BAOFENG BF-888S. A few tips- you may need to tune to CHANNEL 16 and have volume turned to MAXIMUM. Also, it was necessary to give UPLOAD command to radio TWO or THREE consecutive times, the first time it resulted in communications error... but subsequent time it worked!!

Yep, that is working for me also. The radio had to be on channel 16, and there tends to be some bits "left" in the cable that was solved by unplugging the cable, powering down radio and then back on again, then replugging the USB-SERIAL cable again. I found that on a Chirp forum somewhere also.

Incidentally, regarding the programming cables:
1. Many of the USB-Serial cables sold online as "Prolific" cables use a chipset that is a Prolific-knockoff. The Chinese then flash it with an older Prolific firmware that can't be upgraded because it isn't genuine, and tends to be very buggy.
2. Apparently it is widely known that the driver CDs - also known as the "Panda" CDs - contain spyware, so it is important to install the drivers only, not run the installation software. Also make sure to run a virus scan afterward. I have not confirmed this myself, but have spoken to several people personally with the same story.
