I tried the Noctua fan, but it didn't work (2 of them). They are 5v .05A and the original fans are .25A. I can't find an exact replacement. How did you get yours to work??

Sorry, been out of pocket, so delayed reply. The Noctua fan is 5 Volts; 0.05 Amps Max Input Current, so 0.25 Watts Max Input Power (http://www.noctua.at/main.php?show=prod ... g=en&set=1). The original fan is 5 Volts; 0.25 Amps, so 1.25 Watts. Since the new fan's Voltage matches the old fan's 5 Volts and the new fan's Current demand is close to or less than the original fan's Current demand, the replacement should work. Do the Noctuas turn at all when powered? If not, you might have an issue with their power connection to the circuit board. Try connecting them to 3 x 1.5 Volt batteries as a test. That's what I did to confirm the direction of the air flow before making the swap. If the Noctua turns, then you probably have a connection issue. Chances of both Noctuas being defective is low.

I think the combination of the Noctua's 1/5 the current & power spec and it's state-of-the art design and materials enable it to deliver equivalent air flow to that of the original fan, but with reduced noise, so it's a more efficient fan overall.

As an additional step a few days ago, I removed some of the slats of the left side of the DVR's case that were partially blocking the output of the fan, using long-nose plyers, nibler, and file, to maximize the fan's air flow. The temperature of the exhausted air is barely above room temperature, and all is running fine.

No power when connected. The two-prong adapter does not fit the board's, although they made contact. I'll try your suggestion and see where we are. I appreciate your response and will let you know on Monday.

Hello Amcrest Users!

We apologize for the lack of response and plan to be more promt with questions and concerns on the forums. Yes ajclemco is correct that the Noctua Fan that he described is the one that is ment to replace our fans, now there have been cases where people have gotten noctua fans and have had to switch the plug port with the factory one, or buy a noctua fan that some how has the proper plug on the end. If any of you have had this problem i do believe our tech support staff is ver knowledgeable about the fan situation and would be more than happy to respond to any and all emails sent to them. Also Phone support is available although the wait time varies on the call volume at the current time. Also when informing tech suport at amcrest about the fan, ask if you receive a possible reimbursement for the fan that you paid for.

Purchased the Noctua fan and installed it. Definitely quieter now. There is still a bit of noise from the CPU or board fan, but tolerable, especially since my DVR is hidden. Thanks to those who went before me and suggested this.

eBay has 7 of these fans available as of this writing... http://www.ebay.com/itm/311226208324.

I used the two-prong adapter that comes with the fan, but it does not fit perfectly into the connector that the factory fan plugs into. It took me two tries to get it right, but working now.

Hi Chris - When might Amcrest start using the Noctua fan as the standard in its DVR's?

Just measured the fan noise level and it registered at 60 db next to the case fan and about 55 db 1 foot away. That is just very loud and has to be addressed with fan replacement. Did anyone replaced CPU fan? I am sure it is as noisy as case fan. I am planning to install Noctua 40x40x10mm on top of the existing CPU fan, then replace it when warranty expires.

Hello,

Quick update: I have been in contact with the manufacturer and it seems they are completely removing the fans from the 720P 4 channel, the case fan for the 720p 8 channel and 1080p 4 channel, and leaving both fans in for the 1080p 8 channel. The last message I have received from them simply said that the new fans in the latest order. I am asking for clarification on if they mean they are implementing this new fan system, or using different fans. I am also asking if they are using different heat sinks with the new fanless/fewer fanned systems to know if the current systems can just remove fans to lower the noise. I will provide another update once I have more information.
