Running a VPN server on a router or a Raspberry Pi would be more secure than opening ports.

Amcrest have responded and suggested that I do a hard reset of the camera which isn’t the point really as it is my configuration I am trying to save!

I can confirm that this is the case.From the User manual, it seems IP5M-T1179E does not require plugin on the web interface and works with any modern web browser. Is it true?

The Amcrest viewer app will work as will Internet Explorer. We really need a firmware update don’t we.

My NVR logs show that my Amcrest IP5M-T1179E lost connection for about a minute this morning. When I viewed the recording it had indeed changed from IR to non-IR mode.

Have you considered using a NAS to do this? In the long run having the ability to store and/backup files such as photos or music and access them remotely as well as as having Raid protected storage may give you a cost effective solution. Streaming TV or running a Virtual desktop is also possible.
